ALDI Terenure

Located in the heart of Terenure on Terenure Road East, this site formerly housed the principal tram depot for the No. 15 DUTC tram line. As one of the largest underutilised sites within the busy village centre, it presented a significant opportunity for redevelopment as a retail destination.

Although the historic tram sheds remained largely intact, decades of unsympathetic alterations and modifications during the 1960s had obscured much of the original architectural character from public view. The redevelopment sought to reimagine and revitalise these structures, transforming them into a contemporary retail environment while re-establishing their connection with the village.

The opening up and restoration of the original tram sheds has allowed the public to once again experience elements of the historic fabric at close range, bringing renewed life and vibrancy to the area. A bold and contemporary new façade introduced a fresh architectural language to the village streetscape, replacing what had become a poor-quality industrial presence with an active and engaging urban frontage.
